Chicago Industrial Organizational Psychologists (CIOP) is pleased to invite you to a practitioner-oriented event:

Different Perspectives on Tough Selection Scenarios: A Participative Panel Discussion

Panelists: Mr. Jon Atchue, Dr. Scott Morris, and Dr. Stephen Steinhaus

Facilitated by: Dr. Toni Lesowitz

This practitioner-oriented program will have a diverse panel representing academia, private consulting, and human resources all with expertise in selection. Audience members will form small groups to discuss controversial selection scenarios at the beginning of the program. Each group’s solution will then be presented to the rest of the audience, and the expert panel will discuss their unique responses to, and considerations for, these tough selection situations. Please join us for a stimulating participative discussion on controversial issues surrounding selection.

Panelist Bios:

Mr. Jon Atchue

Mr. Jon Atchue is Vice President of Human Resources for Rexam Beverage Can North America, the largest beverage can manufacturer in the world. His key responsibilities include redesigning the HR service delivery model for Rexam in the US, labor relations, talent management, e-learning, and health and welfare benefits. Prior to Rexam, Jon was Senior Director of Executive Development for the McDonald’s Corporation in Oak Brook, and Corporate Director of Organizational Learning at RR Donnelley in Chicago. He received a bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY, and a Master’s from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA.

Dr. Scott Morris

Dr. Scott Morris is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Illinois Institute of Technology. Dr. Morris teaches courses in personnel selection, covering topics such as job analysis, test development and validation, and legal issues. He also teaches courses in basic and multivariate statistics. He is actively involved in research on social cognition and employment-related decision-making. Much of his research has focused on the role of sex-stereotypes on bias in hiring decisions. Scott received a PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology in 1994 from the University of Akron.

Dr. Stephen Steinhaus

Dr. Stephen Steinhaus is the principal of Human Resource Alignment Consulting. He is a specialist in the area of talent management. His specific practice areas include HR analytics, HR process and systems development, and leadership assessment and coaching. He has held key positions as Corporate Industrial Psychologist for Ameritech and as Managing Director for Saville & Holdsworth. Stephen received his Masters in Social and Counseling Psychology from Hunter College in 1981, and his PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1988.

Facilitator Bio:

Dr. Toni Lesowitz

Dr. Toni E. Lesowitz is the president of LGi, a management consulting firm specializing in organization design and development. For more than 8 years LGi has helped companies in a state of transition to develop a new strategy or direction; acquire or merge with another organization; restructure to better serve customer needs; or maximize their use of technology. Before founding her own firm, Toni was with Deloitte & Touche's Human Resources Strategies Consulting Group. She holds an M.A in Clinical Community Psychology and a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, both from DePaul University.

NEWSLETTER: 2006 JANUARY

The event was a great success!! Over 40 professional and student members participated in our social outing in Kaz Bar. Members enjoyed the friendly and casual atmosphere for networking, catching up with old friends, and meeting new colleagues.
