03.24.04 Succession Planning

Program Overview

CIOP's next program will address how organizations plan for the future by identifying and developing talent across organizational levels. Andrew Garman, Associate Professor at Rush University, and Keith Goudy, Practice Leader at Mica Management Resources, will share their expertise in the area of succession planning at CIOP's March 2004 program.

Speaker Bios

Andrew N. Garman, PsyD, MS

Dr. Garman's primary research activities involve leadership competency modeling, assessment, and development, with an emphasis on health sector organizations. As Associate Professor in the Department of Health Systems Management, Rush University, Garman teaches courses in leadership & ethics, organizational analysis, and entrepreneurship in the Rush master's programs.

Prior to joining Rush, Dr. Garman served in a variety of roles for the University of Chicago, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He currently serves as Associate Editor of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice & Research. His research work has been published in a wide variety of academic journals, including the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Administration and Policy in Mental Health, Psychiatric Services, and the Journal of Health Administration Education.

Keith Goudy, PhD

Keith Goudy is a consulting psychologist with MICA Management Resources, Chicago. MICA is a consulting firm that helps clients achieve measurable improvements in business performance through people and organizational development. Dr. Goudy is currently the Practice Leader for MICA's Selection and Succession practice. He consults with organizations in developing strategies for managing their talent pool, with a focus on hiring, developing, and promoting managers who will drive organizational performance and make the greatest impact as leaders. His areas of expertise include leadership assessment, coaching, succession planning, management audits, competency modeling, and validated selection systems. He works with privately held firms as well as public corporations, representing diverse fields including manufacturing, retailing, finance, healthcare, and information technology. Representative client companies include Whirlpool, Exelon, CNA Insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UGN. Dr. Goudy completed his undergraduate education at the Pennsylvania State University, and received his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from DePaul University of Chicago, where he holds an adjunct faculty position. He has authored articles and presents at management conferences in the areas of succession planning and leadership development.
