Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Role of Safety Training: The Case of Nuclear Waste Clean Up
Join us for CIOP's Annual Dinner Meeting, Thursday, June 5, 2003. Dr. Mike Burke, SIOP President, will discuss the role of safety training in hazardous situations.
Program Overview
Dr. Burke will describe the nature of nuclear waste contamination at the nation's most contaminated site, the Hanford Site in Washington State, and overview efforts of an
interdisciplinary team to conduct and evaluate safety training delivered at the site. In addition, new meta-analytic findings concerning the relative effectiveness of different types and
methods of health and safety training will be presented. The implications of these practice efforts and research findings for dealing with safety training in general and countering terrorism
(especially in relation to nuclear waste) will be discussed with the audience.
